Welcome to the Wantagh High Reunion Page

High School Reunion, Class of 1970

The Wantagh High School, Class of 1970 40th Reunion was a big success, helped by perfect weather and by almost a quarter of our graduating class attending one or more of the weekend events the weekend of Friday August 6, Saturday August 7, and Sunday August 8, 2010. Everything went off without a hitch.

To post any follow-up thoughts, and links to any online photos you've made available, or ideas for the next Reunion, go to the Wantagh Reunion, Class of 1970 Blog.

Below is the advance announcement, for the record book:

It will be interesting to see what each of us has chosen to remember... or forget. And plan on asking others who they are. Yes, we've all changed.

Some of you haven't told us yet if you're coming. We have over 140 classmates on our email list, with more than 90 who plan to be there. Let us know if you want to be added to the list.

And if you know someone who's not on the list, now is the time to let us know. This can include friends and family from other surrounding classes including 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, and 1972. You can also contact friends through our Wantagh Reunion, Class of 1970 Blog.

The entire weekend is informal. Remember there is no admission charge for anything. Just pay for your own food and drink. And you don't have to do everything--or anything. We all just want to see you and say hello 40 years after graduating.

Friday

FRIDAY MORNING Golf. We have 7 people that are already committed to playing. Contact us for more information.

FRIDAY EVENING. Meet your classmates at Hemingway's (Wantagh's old Mr. Hess clothing store) beginning at 8pm. Please RSVP if you plan to stop by. So far, almost 70 people will be there. It's just a cool way to hang out in Wantagh. Location: Hemingway's American Bar & Grill, 1885 Wantagh Ave. (516-781-2700). Less than 2 miles south of Southern State Parkway (Exit 28) on the left side of Wantagh Ave. There is a large municipal parking lot behind Hemingway's.

Saturday

SATURDAY AFTERNOON. So far, 36 of us want to walk through the high school at 2pm. So if you know other alumni who'd like to join the tour, feel free to let them know. But we definitely need them to RSVP. Park in the high school parking lot (you remember how to get there, right?) and meet at the main entrance. Custodians will be cleaning, hallways may have some clutter, but we should be able to get a full tour and walk into classrooms, gym, cafeteria etc. Don't forget your cameras. In addition to the Superindendent walking us through the building, there will be 2 current students to tell us what's going on at the school (and to sell us WHS t-shirts! -- ah, souvenirs!).

AFTER THE SCHOOL TOUR

Drive around Wantagh, visit the park, see the new stores, see your old house, grab a bite to eat.

SATURDAY EVENING

Many of us will be eating at Keith Langan's restaurant, the Crab Shack, at the Ocean Pavilion at Tobay Beach. At last count, over 90 people were signed up. Parking is free after 4pm. Cash bar (no credit cards) cocktail hour begins at 6pm and a BBQ dinner starts at 7pm. BBQ dinner includes tap beer, wine, soda, and water. We will be collecting $25 (cash -- no credit cards) for dinner upon arrival. Directions: Wantagh Pkway South to Ocean Pkway. East around the Jones Beach Water Tower and continue another 4.2 miles. At the Tobay Beach sign (on your left), make a U-Turn and turn right into the Tobay Parking Lot. Park. The main underpass in the middle of the south side of the parking lot leads to the Ocean Pavilion. You will find the Reunion dinner on the "ocean side" of the Pavilion.

Sunday

Many possibilities. Hopefully you will decide at Saturday's events where and with whom you want to spend Sunday. Some are playing golf. Brunch at the Lighthouse Diner, 3240 Sunrise Hwy. (May get crowded so be prepared to wait.) And/or a trip to Jones Beach (Expect large crowds so arrive early am. Field #2 opens at 8am, we think. More info.) And/or a LIRR ride to Manhattan to walk around, go to Central Park, see Times Square, walk the all-new elevated Highline Park, eat at an outdoor cafe.

BROADWAY SHOW. We don't have enough interest to form a group, but if you want to see a Broadway matinee on Sunday at 2pm, contact Mitch Weiss and he'll be happy to advise you further.

Notes

Leave your "emotional baggage" at home. Bring some good stories about life's ups and downs. Forgive your former enemies and let's have a memorable weekend.

If you have any questions, contact us, or contact each other. And we are also snail-mailing to newly found alumni who are technologically lost.

One other website online suggests that this event was cancelled. However, this subset of the event is fully operational. Please contact us for more information.
